I'm going to discuss an item which is designed to stop outdoor barking without requiring you to actually go outside and daze the dog yourself. The item I use allows me to specifically target my neighbor's dog, as it is hand held. I like the fact that I know it's only functioning when I point it and press the button. However, without outdoor bark deterrents, I feel concerned that they may be triggered by other loud noises, such as car doors closing or any other sound which may be similar to a dog's bark.
Let's look at one very popular item on Amazon that has over 1300 reviews. It's supposedly effective at distances up to 50 feet and works on all sizes of dogs. One feature of this deterrent that I quite like is its' appearance,as it looks exactly like a birdhouse and is intended to also act as a decorative piece.
The product description states that the product 'detects repetitive barking', which I find to be a very important ability. This comes back to my fear that other sounds may be mistaken for a dog's bark, causing my neighbor's dog to suffer undeservedly. I don't think I could ever use one of these on my own pet.
Reviews show that this product is generally quite effective. Hopefully it is a reliable bark deterrent and doesn't go off when it shouldn't. I'm on the fence about these products, but will be willing to try one of my hand held stops doing the job.

Prevent Dogs From Approaching
The item discussed below is also intended to be used as a dog deterrent. I discovered how effective it can be last night, when out for a walk. As I was walking past one of my neighbor's properties, I noticed a Border Collie looking at me with an aggressive look on its face. I had the dazer in my pocket, as I tend to be a little scared of dogs in my neighborhood. I've never had to use it 'face to face' with a dog before, as I had only used it on my neighbor's dog over the fence. I had also never used it on a large dog, so I was unsure how effective it would be.
Anyway, this was the perfect moment to test it, as the Collie began approaching me, its body language almost seemed as though it was stalking or about to attack. It looked like this:
I tried to remain calm, pulled the ultrasonic deterrent out of my pocket, pointed it at the dog and zapped it. It instantly stopped in its tracks and looked at me with a bemused look on its face. It was at that moment that the owner appeared in the front yard and yelled at the Collie to come back. I must admit that I was a bit rattled by this, as I'd never been approached by a largish dog with such aggressive body language before. I'm not sure if it would've bitten me or not, but I'm glad I didn't have to find out the hard way.
I know Border Collie's aren't exactly rottweilers or German Shepard's, but they can be aggressive and I wouldn't have wanted to be on the receiving end of an attack, or even a nip. I waited until it was only 10-15 feet from me before I actually used it, so I was within the distance specified in the product description (20 feet).
These ultra sonic deterrents could also be awesome for preventing other dogs from attacking your dog whilst walking. It's a fear I have, and I know others who are also paranoid. You see news stories about dogs being mauled in parks and on the streets by stray aggressive dogs. My biggest fear is pit-bull attacking my dad's dog when I walk it. I often take it to the beach and I'm quite paranoid about dogs like pit-bulls, rottweilers and bulldogs. I'm not sure how effective it'd be on stopping a fighting dog in attack mode (I'm guessing not very effective), but it might be able to prevent the approach and stop an outburst from occurring.
I have a friend who has asked to borrow this, as they know that my neighbor's dog doesn't bark anymore. However, after this incident I doubt I'll be lending it out any time soon =)

Hand Held Ultrasonic Dog Dazers
I'd like to show everyone how I stop my neighbor's dog from barking. For years I'd struggled with annoying yapping dogs, I'd yelled at them, thrown water at them and even yelled at my neighbors too =) . Anyway, I finally found this awesome ultrasonic dazer, which I used on my neighbor's terrier. At first, the dog would stop barking when I dazed it. Then, I noticed that the sound of my back door opening was enough to stop it from barking. Now, I can't even remember the last time I heard it bark. I was actually starting to wonder if it was dead until one time recently I heard them calling its name.

Here's the dazer I used. I must admit, I really enjoyed using this as my neighbor's dog had been driving me crazy for months.
