Prevent Dogs From Approaching

The item discussed below is also intended to be used as a dog deterrent. I discovered how effective it can be last night, when out for a walk. As I was walking past one of my neighbor's properties, I noticed a Border Collie looking at me with an aggressive look on its face. I had the dazer in my pocket, as I tend to be a little scared of dogs in my neighborhood. I've never had to use it 'face to face' with a dog before, as I had only used it on my neighbor's dog over the fence. I had also never used it on a large dog, so I was unsure how effective it would be.

Anyway, this was the perfect moment to test it, as the Collie began approaching me, its body language almost seemed as though it was stalking or about to attack. It looked like this:

I tried to remain calm, pulled the ultrasonic deterrent out of my pocket, pointed it at the dog and zapped it. It instantly stopped in its tracks and looked at me with a bemused look on its face. It was at that moment that the owner appeared in the front yard and yelled at the Collie to come back. I must admit that I was a bit rattled by this, as I'd never been approached by a largish dog with such aggressive body language before. I'm not sure if it would've bitten me or not, but I'm glad I didn't have to find out the hard way.

I know Border Collie's aren't exactly rottweilers or German Shepard's, but they can be aggressive and I wouldn't have wanted to be on the receiving end of an attack, or even a nip. I waited until it was only 10-15 feet from me before I actually used it, so I was within the distance specified in the product description (20 feet).

These ultra sonic deterrents could also be awesome for preventing other dogs from attacking your dog whilst walking. It's a fear I have, and I know others who are also paranoid. You see news stories about dogs being mauled in parks and on the streets by stray aggressive dogs. My biggest fear is pit-bull attacking my dad's dog when I walk it. I often take it to the beach and I'm quite paranoid about dogs like pit-bulls, rottweilers and bulldogs. I'm not sure how effective it'd be on stopping a fighting dog in attack mode (I'm guessing not very effective), but it might be able to prevent the approach and stop an outburst from occurring.

I have a friend who has asked to borrow this, as they know that my neighbor's dog doesn't bark anymore. However, after this incident I doubt I'll be lending it out any time soon =)
